Avengers: Endgame’s First Trailer Is Here
Marvel finally releases the trailer and title for Avengers 4, and moves the release date.
Robert Downey Jr. is the MVP of this series. That’s the takeaway from this trailer. Tom Holland’s supernatural acting abilities are out of the picture after Infinity War’s ending, so the emotional weight of the series falls back on RDJ. The speech that dominates the first half of this trailer should remind audiences that if it weren’t for him, the decade and counting long run of box office successes at the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the current entertainment superhero craze, and even Disney’s coming merger with Fox, might never have happened.
This is not to overlook Chris Evans and Scarlett Johansson. It’s not a coincidence that the two principal characters that made Captain America: Winter Soldier tick are the other half of this trailer. They’re not the only ones from the Avengers team who survived “The Decimation,” as Marvel has christened the snappening. But they are the central pairing. And the shot of Cap looking at the image of Peggy Carter hints that all that talk of a time-traveling second half of this story might not have been as off base as it first appeared after Avengers: Infinity War ended.
As for the “April” at the end of the trailer, no one should really be surprised the original date of May 3, 2019, moved back to the weekend prior. The same thing was done with Infinity War, to have the release dates in the UK and the US match. (Historically the UK got the premiere a week before the US market did.) But with as many spoilery endings coming in this installment as the last one, it only makes sense to line up those release dates again for maximum impact.
ETA: The poster seals the date: April 26, 2019.
Aslo, where is Captain Marvel? Or will the trailer that includes her show up after her film’s March 8 release date?
The only question left is if this means both Avengers: Endgame and Game of Thrones Season 8 are landing on the same weekend. They did release trailers within 18 hours of each other after all.
