American Gods Collapse Continues, Kristin Chenoweth Throws Doubts On Season 2
STARZ’s Great GoT-Level Hope continues to flounder as actress Kristin Chenoweth says she doesn’t even know if she’s in Season 2.
The fall out from losing showrunners Brian Fuller and Michael Green at American Gods continued yesterday, as one of the more prominent names, Kristin Chenoweth (who plays the goddess Easter) says she hasn’t heard if she’s even coming back for Season 2.
The worst part? Until Green and Fuller left, she was on board. In fact, she was coming back for a good chunk of the second season. But now… Who knows?
Talking to Variety, Chenowith said:
When Bryan was the showrunner, I was coming back for several episodes, but I don’t know now… It depends on who it is and if they think I add value or not.
That’s a bad quote. That’s a *very* bad quote.
That’s the quote of an actress who is no ok with what went down between the network and the showrunning team, and who has no problem telling the network who’s side she’s on: that of the party that walked.
So far, the rest of the cast has remained mum. But these were people who believed in Fuller’s vision and saw this as his baby as much as a Gaiman story. (Remember, Fuller walked away from Star Trek: Discovery to make this show.) While Chenowith perhaps doesn’t speak for all of the cast, the fact that she felt comfortable enough to speak out like this, knowing it would most likely go viral among the fans…. speaks volumes about the attitude behind the scenes of what went down.
A quote like this also means that other cast members are going to find themselves asked for comment in the coming days. It will be interesting to see which of them equivocate, and which openly suggest that whoever the network brings aboard as a replacement better be up to snuff.
American Gods Season 2 is supposed to debut in 2018 on STARZ. We’ll see.
