Doctor Who: Twice Upon A Time Releases Synopsis
Doctor Who begins their build-up to Capaldi’s final episode with a new image, a synopsis, and a Twitter clip.
With the Royal Engagement now releasing some of the oxygen back into the atmosphere, it’s safe for the BBC to go ahead and release the first official image of our adventurers in the Christmas 2017 special “Twice Upon A Time.” We still have nearly a month until the episode airs, but it’s good to get a glimpse of what’s coming and to see Bill one last time.
Bill? Yes, Bill. Despite this episode being billed as one where the Doctors are their own companions, Bill will be on board for her last ride in the TARDIS as well. Not unlike the 50th Anniversary, where 10 and 11 were The War Doctor’s companions, but Clara was still there too.
(We’re curious about her new ability to dissolve into puddledom. Will that come in handy? Or considering the temperature of the planet they’re on, is she effective iced out of that particular trait for the hour?)
Here’s the official synopsis of Capaldi’s last ride:
The magical final chapter of the Twelfth Doctor’s (Peter Capaldi) journey sees the Time Lord team up with his former self, the first ever Doctor (David Bradley – Harry Potter, Game of Thrones) and a returning Bill Potts (Pearl Mackie), for one last adventure.
Two Doctors stranded in an Arctic snowscape, refusing to face regeneration. Enchanted glass people, stealing their victims from frozen time. And a World War One captain destined to die on the battlefield, but taken from the trenches to play his part in the Doctor’s story.
An uplifting new tale about the power of hope in humanity’s darkest hours, Twice Upon A Time marks the end of an era. But as the Doctor must face his past to decide his future, his journey is only just beginning…
And in case we’ve forgotten, Steven Moffat invited all his Doctor Who besties to come along as well:
Twice Upon A Time is written by Steven Moffat, directed by Rachel Talalay, and executive produced by Brian Minchin. The 60 minute special guest stars Mark Gatiss as The Captain and Nikki Amuka-Bird as the voice of the glass woman, and will see Peter Capaldi’s Doctor regenerate into the Thirteenth Doctor (Jodie Whittaker).
Personally, the Talalay-as-director part is why I’m very excited for this. Her work with Moffat’s scripts has been one of the standouts of his tenure. As well as having a woman direct our meeting of the first Female Doctor of course….
