The Full Black Panther Trailer Promises Wonders Beyond Aliens
Marvel’s extraordinarily anticipated Black Panther movie arrives February 16th, 2018. The first trailer promises us the moon.
The expectations for Marvel’s Black Panther are high. Almost too high. The cast is literally a who’s who of every A-list black actor working in Hollywood in 2017. The director is Ryan Coogler, known for such high minded work as Fruitvale Station. The first teaser sent viewers into paroxysms of anticipation.
And now comes the first full trailer, which insists that, if you think that it was mindblowing to see an Iron Man, a God named Thor, a true believer Captain America, a Doctor Strange, an Ant-Man or a boy who can leap tall buildings with a single web, well, that’s just the beginning.
What else are you hiding? asks Martin Freeman. (And that’s coming from the man who traveled there and back again.)
(By the way, that is a kick-ass remix of The Revolution Will Not Be Televised. If nothing else, this soundtrack will be the best one of any Marvel movie, and perhaps of 2018 in general.)
We also get a better idea of the plot, including why Wakanda, and why now. We met T’Challa (Chadwick Boseman, the titular Black Panther) the day his father was killed in the last Avengers movie –which served as a quite well-done origin story as well. So what could the full-length movie offer? Apparently, T’Challa has a rival for the throne, Erik Killmonger (Michael B. Jordan, in a fly hairdo) who even sports his very own catsuit. Meow.
That suit, for the record, is not a canon item from the comics, where Killmonger is an exile trying to lob bombs at Wakanda from the outside, not scale a full-on coup for the throne. Jordan says it’s all part of the plan:
Me and T’Challa have two totally different approaches to the throne as well and you see those two opposing sides clash. So, you can call it a Magneto/Professor X type of chemistry. That’s all I can give away.
We’ll have to wait to discover Wakanda, and it’s secrets, until next February.
