Resortwear 2013: Michael Kors
Michael Kors just opened three new stores in Istanbul, which might explain why his resortwear collection came with a Turkish flair.
What it didn’t explain is why some of the clothes seemed ill-fit to the models. Here we have a golden firy coat that would look fabulous on a hanger, but for reasons no one can explain, makes the model look shrunken.
How can clothes from a professional designer look so unflattering on the model? Again, the proportions of the coat are doing terrible things to this poor girl, especially paired with a belly baring midriff top and short shorts. The dress on the right, thankfully, is more forgiving.
On the left we have a lovely lace skirt and velour top whose diagonal twist is doing lovely things for the waist…but it’s really hard to concentrate on that when you’ve got another mis proportioned coat on the right doing ghastly things to the model’s legs and hands.
Is it just total sleeve fail? Is it supposed to be 9/10ths sleeves? Whatever it is , especially when paired with these short shorts, it looks like something Kors would cattily take down on Project Runway. Noted that on the right, the dress (like all the dresses so far) does not have this problem.
I spoke too soon. What is going on with the waist on the right? I can’t help but start to wonder if we have an oddly proportioned model?
Rounding into eveningwear, things smooth themselves out. I love the painterly look of the gold swirls on the red dress especially.
All is forgiven. I want both of these dresses, and to go to Turkey to wear them.
It’s like a golden waterfall of a dress. Divine.
